We are going to talk about Comptia a + 1001 objectives. When for the certification if it is import to understand the skills that you will need to master. Comptia 1001 objectives are broken down into 5 sections. Each with a weighted differently and are broken up into hands on and multiple choice questions.
Domain percentage of exam
- 1.0 Mobile Devices 14%
- 2.0 Networking 20%
- 3.0 Hardware 27%
- 4.0 Virtualization and Cloud Computing 12%
- 5.0 Hardware and Network Troubleshooting 27%
1.0 Mobile Devices
The mobile section is broken into 7 sections. Due to increase use of laptops this is core focus of this section but it also includes other mobile devices. We also need to know how configure devices for the business setting.
Section 1.1 is focused on installing, configuring laptop hardware and components. This would be all the internal components of the laptop. You need to know the proper steps to remove and install.
- hard disk drive
- SSD “Solid State Drive”, Hybrid SSD and magnetic disk, magnetic disk
- Smart Card reader
- Optical drive
- Wireless card/ Bluetooth module
- Cellular card
- Video card
- Mini PCle
- DC jack
- System Board
The components they 1.2 is installing the components in the display of the laptop. We look at screen replacement with LCD “Liquid Crystal Display” or OLED “Organic Light Emitting Diode”. Replacing placing and connecting WiFi antenna. Removing and replacing webcam, microphone, inverter and digitizer/touchscreen.
1.3 we look at how to right features to control the laptop. This would be controlling the display and turning on and off certain features such as WiFi, screen sharing ang GPS. This section goes over how to use docking station, port replicators, physical locks and rotating/removable screens.
1.4 You need to know about and compare contrast the different types of mobile devices. This would be wearable, phones and tablets
Section 1.5 goes into connecting the devices to your laptop or mobile device. 1.6 goes into configuring basic mobile device network connectivity and application support. 1.7 based on information given perform mobile device synchronization.
In networking, we will learn about how to set up our types of configuration we do. We will know the difference from TCP and UDP. The protocols that we can use and their purpose. We will compare and contrast network hardware. You know how to configure a SOHO “Small office home office” network. Compare and contrast networking protocols.
You will need to be able to know the purpose provided by networked hosts. Explain network configuration concepts. Compare and contrast internet connection types, network types. Be able to use the appropriate tool to fix or setup the network
For this section you need to compare and contrast cable types. Be able to identify common connector types. Install ram in a given scenario. Install and configure storage devices on desktop. For desktop know how to install and configure components. Explain the use of different peripheral types.
Be able to compare and contrast power supply types and there features. In given scenario pick the correct for custom computer based on customer’s goals and needs. Be able to install and configure those devices and other common devices.
For a SOHO “small office home office” we will learn how to configure multi function devices/printers and settings. Install and maintain different types of printers
4.0 Virtualization and Cloud computing
One must know compare and contrast cloud computing concepts. The different product and services available. Then able to set up and configure client side virtualization.
5.0 Hardware and Network Troubleshooting
We will learn best practices to trouble shoot a problem. We know how to find out and fix problems in many scenarios. This will include the motherboard, ram, CPU and power. Fix issues with hard drives and RAID “Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks” arrays. Troubleshoot video, projector and display problems. Following procedure, we will know how to fix mobile devices. Lastly trouble shoot printers and common wired/wireless network problems
Wait there is more
We now know now about comptia a+ exam. Each section mobile devices, networking, hardware, virtualization and cloud computing, hardware and network troubleshooting. In upcoming articles we will dive deeper in each one of these sections. Each section will have new vocab to learn and test to challenge your knowledge.
